Hi Everyone,
The worn, distressed look is very popular in digital scrapbooking. Personally, I like the shabby look, but I like it to be subtle. I don’t usually like creating designs that look heavily tattered and damaged.
That’s why I really like a new video tutorial on the Bittbox blog. This tutorial shows you a method for creating a very subtle, worn texture using Camera Raw in Photoshop.
Now, if you are using Photoshop Elements, don’t think you can’t do something similar to this. You can get good results by first converting your image to grayscale (Image>Mode>Grayscale) and then adding a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer (from the ‘New fill or adjustment layer’ icon at the bottom of the Layers Panel). Push the contrast all the way up to 100 on the adjustment layer. And, if that doesn’t give you enough contrast, duplicate the adjustment layer as many times as you need until you are happy with the level of contrast. Then, flatten your image and invert and create your brush just like in the video tutorial.
The author of the video tutorial has also put out a great set of the worn textures that he created using this method. You can download them for free here.
Happy Scrapping!
Mary
