Digital Scrapbooking Ideas: Telling the Story

by Mary on January 19, 2011

scrapbooking momentsHi Everyone,

For me, scrapbooking is a way to tell the story behind my photos. You know what I mean. Scrapbooking is like keeping a journal. Through the paper and embellishments and words and journaling that I use on each page, I try to tell the story of my photos.

That’s really the charm of scrapbooking, I think. And, it’s what makes a scrapbooking page so much more interesting than just a photo album.

A picture is worth a thousand words they say, and that’s certainly true. But, I think that this is more true for some pictures than for others. I’m sure that you’ve all come across the photo that speaks volumes. It could be the setting or the lighting or just the look on someone’s face. But, there’s just something about some photos that tell the whole story all by themselves. When I’m scrapbooking with those photos, I usually take a more minimalist approach to my layout and I’ll only add maybe a simple embellishment or a single word title. In those cases, I want the story to be told mostly by the photo itself and the scrapbooking details are there just to enhance it.

That brings me to props. I came across a blog post today on the Photoshop Elements User blog that discusses ways to use props when you’re photographing to bring home the story that your pictures tell. It’s an idea that has really made me think about different ways to photograph. And, it’s one more way to help your pictures tell their story.

Happy Scrapping!

Mary
